How to run a Twitch ad campaign: from brief to report
To run a Twitch ad campaign, set one goal and KPI, choose a buying route, send a brief with creatives and tracking, approve the streamer list, then monitor delivery to the final report. With APIQ, the media plan arrives in 24 hours and launch follows 1–2 days after approval.
To run a Twitch ad campaign, a brand goes through eight steps: set one goal and KPI, choose a buying route, write the brief, approve the streamer list, label the ad, set up tracking, launch and monitor, then read the report. With APIQ, the media plan arrives within 24 hours, and launch follows 1–2 days after the streamer and creative list is approved.
Set one goal and the KPI that will prove it
Write the goal in one line before talking to any provider: awareness, traffic, app installs or sales. Pick one primary KPI and decide where you will measure it. Agree the unit of purchase too: impressions, views and verified views are not interchangeable. Which metric fits which goal: Twitch campaign metrics.
Pick the buying route before the format
| Route | What you buy | First step | Published lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twitch ads through Amazon Ads | Twitch's own video, display and high-impact placements | Register with Amazon Ads or contact a Twitch account executive | Headliner: 5–8 working days after a signed IO and approved creatives |
| Direct streamer deals | An integration or mention on each channel | Negotiate with each streamer | None: one negotiation per streamer |
| Agency | Depends on the agency type | Brief the agency | Set by the agency |
| In-stream platform (APIQ) | Verified views inside approved streamers' broadcasts | Send a brief | Media plan in 24 hours; launch 1–2 days after approval |

Per Amazon Ads' Twitch guide, video comes in managed-service or self-service packages, and high-impact video requires a minimum spend; no rates are published. The Headliner spec adds 8 days if Amazon designs the creative; for display units such as Super Leaderboard, the lead-time policy gives 3 business days for trafficking and QA with final files.

Write a brief that fits on one page
For APIQ, a brief covers:
- the goal: reach, clicks, installs or sales;
- target audience and country;
- budget or the desired volume of views;
- dates, and the exact start time if there is an embargo (the campaign can start on a timer);
- formats and ready creatives, if any;
- brand-safety restrictions.
Start work on the creative alongside the brief. A ready TV or online spot of up to 30 seconds runs as full-screen video without changes, QR codes are added by the platform, and technical specs arrive with the media plan. Twitch's First Impression Takeover takes unskippable video of up to 30 seconds. All specs: Twitch ad creative specs.
Approve the streamer list and set the limits
The APIQ media plan is a longlist of recommended streamers with a view forecast, built with a reserve: after approval, each streamer gets an offer and decides whether to take part (on average about 80% accept, depending on category, geography and season), and those who decline are replaced from your approved list.
- The list and categories. Strike any streamer before launch or during the campaign, and set whitelists and blacklists of stream categories; ads run only on the approved pool.
- Built-in exclusions. Each streamer's contract bans ads next to politics, violence, sex and drugs; automated checks exclude gambling and betting channels. A streamer caught in a scandal is disconnected at once.
- Competitors. Category exclusivity can be agreed for a set period.
The trade-off: the volume guarantee rests on the longlist, because APIQ adds streamers from it if a channel falls short. A fixed list, such as only your own streamers, is possible in closed-circle mode, but delivery is then the advertiser's responsibility.
Label the ad in every market
Rules differ by country, and disclosure is part of your campaign, whoever runs it. The simplest approach in our market guides: a label in the creative for the whole display.
| Market | Label in the creative | Rules explained in |
|---|---|---|
| UK, US | “Ad” | Advertising on Twitch |
| Spain | “Publicidad” | Streamers in Spain |
| Germany | “Werbung” | Streamers in Germany |
| Turkey | “Reklam” and the brand name | Streamers in Turkey |
Agree any spoken mention in the contract, and check your case with a legal adviser.
Set up tracking before launch, not after
- One link per channel. In an APIQ campaign, each channel gets its own link by default; add UTM tags in one naming convention.
- Your attribution. AppsFlyer, Adjust and pixels work on top. On Twitch, APIQ accepts impression pixels, so conversions count post-view as well as post-click.
- The chat link first. Across APIQ campaigns, about 80% of clicks come from the chat link, 10% from the QR code and 10% from the screen, so the landing page behind the chat link does most of the work.
- A promo code in the creative if sales happen offline or in an app.
- Thresholds, windows, test clicks. Agree the CTR threshold that switches a streamer off and the attribution windows, and test every link.
Timeline from brief to final report
- Day 0, brief. You send it.
- Within 24 hours, media plan. Longlist, view forecast, formats.
- Approval. You strike streamers and approve creatives, at your pace.
- 1–2 days after approval, launch. A timed start can switch the campaign on at a set hour.
- During the campaign. Delivery and KPIs online.
- End, report. Dashboard plus your own analytics.
Launch and monitor delivery
- Pacing. Views are spread evenly over the campaign; the daily plan is recalculated every night. If delivery lags, streamers from the approved longlist are added until the KPI is met.
- Checks. A screenshot at the moment of display, computer vision on the creative and, on Twitch and Kick, a check that the chat link is posted and pinned. Anti-fraud on 14 parameters keeps suspicious traffic off the invoice; if a streamer switches off the layer, those views aren't counted.
- Optimization. A streamer below the agreed CTR threshold is switched off automatically; volume can move to the streamers who deliver. How often the ad appears depends on the cadence set on each channel.
Read the report and decide what to repeat
An APIQ report shows verified views, CTR, QR scans, chat-link clicks, results by creative and by streamer, poll answers and a screenshot of every view with the streamer, time and audience size. Read it in order: volume against plan, result against KPI, then creatives and streamers, your shortlist for the next flight.
Views are not people: in the L'Oréal Paris campaign in Turkey (367 streamers, 800,127 verified views, 11,762 clicks, CTR 1.47%), 63% of views came from unique viewers.
Checklist: what to prepare in advance
- Materials: a spot of up to 30 seconds, banners, a label in every creative, the landing page.
- Access: dashboard and attribution logins for your team.
- Tracking: UTM convention, attribution links, pixels, promo codes, windows.
- Approvals: who signs off streamers, creatives and labeling, and by when.
- Dates: start time, flights, report date.
What depends on format, and what isn't promised
- The CPV rate depends on the format: a banner costs less than full-screen video. Within a format it is the same for every streamer; the exact rate is in the media plan.
- The guarantee covers the volume of views, not a specific streamer.
- A streamer may introduce the ad in their own words, but that can't be guaranteed.
- On Amazon Ads, the First Impression Takeover spec lists 16 markets, including the US, UK, Germany and Spain, but not Turkey.

Frequently asked questions
How do I start a Twitch ad campaign?
Start a Twitch ad campaign with one goal and one KPI, then choose a buying route: Twitch's own ads through Amazon Ads, direct streamer deals, an agency or an in-stream platform such as APIQ. Send a brief, approve the streamer list, label the ad, set up tracking links, then monitor delivery until the final report.
How long does it take to launch a Twitch ad campaign?
With APIQ, the media plan arrives within 24 hours of the brief, and a Twitch campaign launches 1–2 days after the streamer list and creatives are approved. On Amazon Ads, Twitch's Headliner needs 5–8 working days after a signed IO and approved creatives, plus 8 days if Amazon designs the creative.
What should a Twitch campaign brief include?
A Twitch campaign brief for APIQ covers the goal, target audience and country, budget or desired volume of views, dates and any embargo start time, formats and ready creatives, and brand-safety restrictions. A ready TV or online spot of up to 30 seconds runs as full-screen video without changes.
How do I track results from Twitch streamer ads?
Set up tracking before launch. In an APIQ campaign, every channel gets its own link by default; add UTM tags, AppsFlyer or Adjust links and pixels. On Twitch, APIQ accepts impression pixels, so conversions count post-view and post-click. About 80% of clicks come from the chat link, so test every link in advance.
