Twitch vs YouTube Live, Kick and TikTok LIVE: ads compared
Twitch sells ads through Amazon Ads, YouTube through Google Ads and Kick through Kick Ads since August 2026, while TikTok's own LIVE tools bring viewers to a brand's own LIVE. To appear inside other creators' streams, brands sponsor creators or buy in-stream ads as media.
Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick and TikTok LIVE sell advertising in four different ways: Twitch through Amazon Ads, YouTube through Google Ads, Kick through Kick Ads since August 2026, while TikTok's own LIVE tools bring viewers to a brand's own LIVE rather than into other creators' streams. To appear inside other creators' broadcasts on any of the four, a brand sponsors creators or buys in-stream ads as media.
Where live viewing is in 2026
Streams Charts counted a record 31.7 billion hours of live streams watched in Q3 2026 (Streams Charts, 13 October 2026):
- YouTube: 13.62 billion hours, 43% of the total, down 13.7% on Q2.
- TikTok LIVE: 10.6 billion hours, 33.5%, up 19%.
- Twitch: 4.51 billion hours, 14.2%, up 4%.
- Kick: 2.04 billion hours, 6.4%, up 30.7%.
Hours watched measure attention, not people, and platforms' own figures aren't like for like: Amazon Ads cites about 35 million daily Twitch users (internal data, 2022), nearly 70% aged 18 to 34; Kick says it has over 100 million active users, 81.7% aged 18 to 34 (B&T, 4 August 2026).
What each platform sells to advertisers (October 2026)
Twitch. Sold by Amazon Ads, self-service or managed. Video ads are unskippable, high-impact video needs a minimum spend, and running mid-roll breaks “is entirely up to the streamer” (Amazon Ads guide). The ad specs list First Impression Takeover (one advertiser per day per geo), Headliner, Premium Video and Creator Sponsorships. More in Advertising on Twitch.
YouTube Live. Bought in Google Ads. In a monetized stream, pre-roll and display ads switch on automatically, the creator picks the mid-roll mode and YouTube decides which slots get an ad (YouTube Help). Google Ads has no live-only targeting; live streaming videos can only be excluded, at account level. More in YouTube Live advertising.
Kick. Kick Ads launched on 4 August 2026 (GamesBeat), and Tubefilter reported ad breaks in live streams on 11 August, with “variable break lengths.” The reports we reviewed don't say which countries Kick Ads is sold in or how an impression is verified. More in Does Kick have ads?
TikTok LIVE. LIVE Shopping Ads need a TikTok Shop and bring viewers to your own LIVE; Promote's Boost LIVE goal does the same. In the help pages we reviewed, no TikTok ad product puts a brand's ad inside another creator's LIVE. More in TikTok LIVE advertising.

What you can buy from creators
A sponsorship buys a creator's voice. In a direct deal, each creator charges a separate fee, nobody guarantees how many people see the mention, and the report comes from the creator. Amazon lists Creator Sponsorships for Twitch, such as Bounty Board and Channel Takeover. On TikTok, the creator turns on the commercial content disclosure setting, and viewers see a “Paid partnership” label.
In-stream ads: the model and what depends on the platform
The streamer adds an ad layer to their streaming software, such as OBS, just once, and APIQ shows your creative in it: a banner, full-screen video of up to 30 seconds, a poll, rich media or Frame-roll, APIQ's format in which the stream shrinks and your brand fills the frame. Ad blockers don't remove it.
APIQ's model: one CPV rate for every streamer in a format, fixed in the media plan, a guaranteed volume of views and payment for verified views only. Each view is checked on a screenshot with computer vision, and the audience is scored on 14 anti-fraud parameters. The media plan arrives within 24 hours, and launch follows 1–2 days after the streamer and creative list is approved; see the brands page.
What depends on the platform:
- Chat link. On Twitch and Kick, the system also checks that the chat link is posted and pinned.
- Impression pixels. APIQ accepts them on Twitch, so conversions count after a view as well as after a click.
- TikTok. The ad layer lives in streaming software, while a TikTok LIVE can also start from the phone app: ask how each channel streams.
- Case studies. APIQ's published figures come mainly from Twitch in Turkey, such as L'Oréal Paris: 367 streamers, 800,127 verified views, CTR 1.47%. Elsewhere, a pilot is possible.
Brand safety and content ratings by platform
- Twitch: creators must label sensitive content with Content Classification Labels; advertisers choose an Expanded, Standard or Restrictive tier; DoubleVerify and IAS are approved (Amazon Ads).
- YouTube: advertiser-friendly guidelines apply to live streams; the live-stream exclusion removes live inventory as a whole, and with placement targeting the auction decides whether an ad lands in a live stream or an upload.
- Kick: gambling streams are demonetized in the KICK Partner Program; at launch, advertisers can buy by category and segment, but the reports we reviewed describe no brand-safety tiers or third-party verification.
- TikTok: LIVE hosts must be 18+; in Spain, Germany, Turkey and the UK, trailers for films, TV and games in branded content are restricted to over-18 audiences.
- In-stream with APIQ: you approve channels by name and can remove one mid-campaign; contracts rule out ads next to politics, violence, sex and drugs; gambling and betting channels are excluded automatically.
Spain, Germany and Turkey: where the audience is
| Market | What the data shows | Source, date |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | All ten Spanish streamers with the most hours watched in 2025 stream on Twitch; Spain is Kick's second EU market by users | Streams Charts, 9 Jan 2026; Kick data via Mein-MMO, 29 Jun 2026 |
| Germany | eliasn97 was seventh worldwide on Twitch by hours watched in 2025; Kick's third EU market | Streams Charts, 15 Dec 2025; Mein-MMO, 29 Jun 2026 |
| Turkey | Kick held 81.4% of MENA viewing (a region that includes Turkey) across Twitch, YouTube Gaming and Kick in Q1 2026; TikTok Shop not among announced markets, so no LIVE Shopping Ads | Stream Hatchet via NetInfluencer, 4 May 2026; TikTok, May 2026 |
A typical way to choose
- Start with the market. In Turkey, a Twitch-only plan leaves out Kick, which took 81.4% of MENA viewing in Q1 2026.
- Decide what you buy. A slot the platform fills, traffic to your own LIVE, a creator's voice, or a place inside named creators' streams.
- Agree on one unit. An impression, a LIVE view and a verified view differ; compare offers in one unit.
- Combine. Creators for the story, platform ads for broad reach, in-stream ads for verified views, each with its own tracking link.
Frequently asked questions
Which live streaming platform has the biggest audience?
By hours watched, YouTube: 13.62 billion hours, or 43%, in Q3 2026, according to Streams Charts. TikTok LIVE followed with 10.6 billion hours (33.5%), Twitch with 4.51 billion (14.2%) and Kick with 2.04 billion (6.4%). Hours watched measure attention, not people, so audience size alone doesn't decide which platform a brand should buy.
How is buying ads on Twitch different from YouTube Live?
Twitch ads are sold by Amazon Ads, self-service or managed; video ads are unskippable and the streamer runs the mid-roll breaks. YouTube Live ads are bought in Google Ads: pre-roll and display switch on automatically in monetized streams, and YouTube decides which mid-roll slots get an ad. Google Ads has no live-only targeting.
Can a brand advertise inside other creators' TikTok LIVEs?
Not through TikTok's own ad tools, according to the help pages we reviewed. LIVE Shopping Ads need a TikTok Shop and bring viewers to your own LIVE, and Promote's Boost LIVE goal does the same. Inside other creators' TikTok LIVEs, a brand appears through a sponsorship with a “Paid partnership” label, or through in-stream ads placed in the creator's streaming software.
Does Kick sell ads to brands?
Yes, since August 2026. Kick launched Kick Ads on 4 August 2026, and ad breaks of variable length followed in live streams that month, according to GamesBeat and Tubefilter. The reports we reviewed don't say which countries Kick Ads is sold in or how an impression is verified. Brands can also sponsor Kick streamers or buy in-stream ads.
