Twitch vs TikTok LIVE advertising: audience, ads, proof

In short

On Twitch, Amazon Ads sells unskippable video inside live streams; TikTok's LIVE ad tools bring viewers to a brand's own LIVE. To appear inside other creators' streams on either, brands sponsor creators or buy in-stream ads paid per verified view.

Twitch and TikTok LIVE differ for advertisers in one basic way: on Twitch, Amazon Ads sells unskippable video that runs inside live streams, while TikTok's LIVE ad tools bring viewers to a brand's own LIVE, not into other creators' broadcasts. Here is how the two compare on audience, what you can buy, measurement and brand safety, with sources checked on 7 November 2026.

Gaming streams vs a feed with a LIVE tab

Streams Charts' Q3 2026 report (13 October 2026):

  • TikTok LIVE: 10.6 billion hours watched, a record 33.5% of the tracked market, up 19% on Q2. “Chats” led the categories; gaming was 16.2% of watch time.
  • Twitch: 4.51 billion hours, 14.2%, up 4%. Gaming was 76.9% of watch time.

TikTok LIVE draws more than twice the hours, mostly to non-gaming streams; Twitch remains a gaming platform. Amazon Ads cites about 35 million daily Twitch users, nearly 70% aged 18 to 34 (Twitch internal data, 2022). Hours watched measure attention, not people: treat these as market estimates.

What Twitch and TikTok sell to advertisers

Twitch. Amazon Ads sells managed-service or self-service packages. Video ads in live broadcasts “are unskippable and always above the fold,” and “running mid-roll ads is entirely up to the streamer” (Amazon Ads). The ad specs list First Impression Takeover, shown during a viewer's first broadcast of the day, plus Headliner, Premium Video, Vertical Video Ads and Stream Display Ads. First Impression Takeover is sold per day per geo in 16 markets, including Germany, Spain and the UK, but not Turkey. More in Advertising on Twitch.

TikTok LIVE. LIVE Shopping Ads “help people on TikTok discover and watch your LIVE videos” in the feed, the Shopping Center and search. They need a TikTok Shop connected to the ad account, 18+ age targeting and a LIVE that starts within 48 hours of the planned time (updated March 2026). Since July 2025, GMV Max has been the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop ads, though LIVE Shopping Ads can still be created by selecting a TikTok identity (TikTok, March 2026). Promote's Boost LIVE goal needs an account with at least 1,000 followers and a user aged 18 or over (July 2026). Both bring traffic to a LIVE you run; in the help pages we reviewed, no TikTok product puts your ad into another creator's LIVE. More in TikTok LIVE advertising.

What you can buy from creators on each platform

On Twitch, Amazon lists Creator Sponsorships: Bounty Board, a marketplace connecting brands with streamers, and Channel Takeover, which combines clickable co-branded Channel Skins, Streamer-Read Ads of 30 to 60 seconds, Follower Promotions and Sponsored Subscriptions at 50% off.

On TikTok, a sponsorship is a direct deal with the creator, or a commission through the TikTok Shop affiliate program where Shop operates. The creator switches on the commercial content disclosure setting in the LIVE settings and tags the brand; viewers see a “Paid partnership” label (January 2026).

Creator income differs too. In Twitch's Plus Program, open to Partners and Affiliates, streamers who keep 300 Plus Points for three consecutive months get a 70/30 split of net subscription revenue, and 100 points give 60/40 (Twitch, January 2024; in effect since May 2024). TikTok LIVE Subscription requires creators aged 18 or over with at least 1,000 followers, and Gifts are limited to users over 18 (TikTok, June 2023). On both, a direct deal buys a creator's voice, with a fee per creator and no guarantee of how many people see the mention.

Measuring results: platform metrics vs verified views

Amazon's Twitch reporting lists impressions, unique reach, video completion rate and new-to-brand; DoubleVerify and IAS are approved on Twitch to measure invalid traffic and viewability (Amazon Ads). TikTok defines LIVE views as the “number of times your LIVE was viewed from an ad. Revisits are counted” (TikTok, March 2026): entries to your own LIVE.

Neither shows whether your brand was on screen in someone else's stream. With in-stream ads bought as media, the streamer adds an ad layer to streaming software such as OBS once, and APIQ shows your creative inside the video. A view counts only if the creative was shown correctly and fully visible; each comes with a screenshot checked by computer vision, the streamer, the time and the audience size at that moment, and the audience is scored on 14 anti-fraud parameters. You pay one CPV rate for every streamer in a format, fixed in the media plan, for a guaranteed volume of verified views; see the brands page. Each channel gets its own tracking link; on Twitch, impression pixels also let conversions count after a view as well as after a click.

What depends on the platform:

  • Twitch. The system also checks that the chat link is posted and pinned.
  • TikTok LIVE. The ad layer lives in streaming software, while a TikTok LIVE can also start from the phone app. Streamlabs (July 2026) says stream key access “isn't always guaranteed” and that creators using third-party software must stream at least 50% gaming content. Ask how each channel goes live; you approve every channel by name.

Brand safety and moderation

  • Twitch: creators must apply Content Classification Labels to sensitive content; advertisers choose an Expanded, Standard or Restrictive inventory tier (Amazon Ads).
  • TikTok: LIVE hosts must be 18 or older since 23 November 2022 (TikTok). In Spain, Germany, Turkey and the UK, film, TV and game trailers in branded content are restricted to over-18 audiences (TikTok, November 2025). TikTok's brand safety post (March 2023) describes an Inventory Filter and names Zefr, IAS and DoubleVerify as partners, but doesn't mention LIVE.
  • In-stream with APIQ: contracts rule out ads next to politics, violence, sex and drugs; gambling and betting channels are excluded automatically; you can remove a streamer mid-campaign.

TikTok reach is over-18 ad reach for the whole app, not LIVE viewers; Shop markets are from TikTok's announcement of 28 May 2026. Stream Hatchet's MENA includes Turkey and Turkish-language streams. APIQ campaigns in Turkey currently run on Twitch and Kick; for TikTok LIVE, check feature availability with the platform in each country.

When to choose Twitch, TikTok LIVE or both

  1. Gaming audience, unskippable video. Twitch: 76.9% of watch time is gaming, and Amazon sells video inside streams.
  2. Selling during a stream in a TikTok Shop market. LIVE Shopping Ads to your own LIVE, plus creators with the “Paid partnership” label.
  3. Verified presence in named creators' streams. In-stream ads paid per verified view, on Twitch or on TikTok channels that stream from software.
  4. Both. Creators for the story, platform ads for reach, in-stream ads for verified views. The media plan arrives within 24 hours, and launch follows 1–2 days after the streamer and creative list is approved. With YouTube Live and Kick: the four platforms compared.

Frequently asked questions

Is Twitch or TikTok LIVE better for advertising?

It depends on what you buy. Twitch suits gaming audiences: gaming was 76.9% of its watch time in Q3 2026, and Amazon Ads sells unskippable video inside live streams. TikTok LIVE drew more hours, 10.6 billion against 4.51 billion, but its ad tools bring viewers to your own LIVE. Inside other creators' streams, brands sponsor creators or buy in-stream ads.

Can you run ads in other creators' TikTok LIVEs?

Not through TikTok's own ad tools, according to the help pages we reviewed on 7 November 2026. LIVE Shopping Ads need a TikTok Shop and bring viewers to your own LIVE, and Promote's Boost LIVE goal does the same. In other creators' LIVEs, a brand appears through a sponsorship with a “Paid partnership” label, or through in-stream ads in the creator's streaming software.

Which has a bigger audience, Twitch or TikTok LIVE?

By hours watched, TikTok LIVE: 10.6 billion hours, or 33.5% of the tracked market, in Q3 2026, against 4.51 billion hours, or 14.2%, for Twitch, according to Streams Charts. Content differs sharply: gaming was 76.9% of Twitch watch time but 16.2% on TikTok LIVE. Hours watched measure attention, not the number of people.

What's better for monetization, Twitch or TikTok LIVE?

The rules differ. On Twitch, Partners and Affiliates who keep 300 Plus Points for three consecutive months get a 70/30 split of net subscription revenue, or 60/40 from 100 points, and mid-roll ads are the streamer's choice. TikTok LIVE Subscription requires creators aged 18 or over with at least 1,000 followers, and Gifts are limited to users over 18. Brand deals and in-stream ads add income on both.

How do you verify that an ad ran in a Twitch or TikTok live stream?

Platform reports count their own inventory: Amazon Ads reports impressions and video completion on Twitch, and TikTok counts views of your own LIVE, revisits included. For ads inside creators' streams, APIQ counts a view only when the creative was fully visible, with a screenshot checked by computer vision, the streamer, the time and the audience size, plus 14 anti-fraud parameters.
