How to promote a TikTok LIVE: Promote, ads and creators

In short

A TikTok LIVE can be promoted with Promote (Boost LIVE goal, 18+ and 1,000 followers), with LIVE Shopping Ads if you sell on TikTok Shop, or by paying creators to go live for your brand. None of these puts your ad inside other creators' LIVEs.

Yes, you can promote a TikTok LIVE: with the Promote tool and its Boost LIVE goal, with LIVE Shopping Ads in TikTok Ads Manager if you sell through TikTok Shop, or by paying creators to go live with your brand. All three bring viewers to one specific LIVE; none places your creative inside other creators' broadcasts. Below are the requirements, steps and metrics, per TikTok's help pages as checked on 7 November 2026.

Can you promote a TikTok LIVE? Two different questions

A search for “promote TikTok LIVE” can mean one of two things:

  • Viewers for a specific LIVE, the brand's own or one a creator hosts for it. That's what TikTok's paid tools and creator deals are for.
  • A place inside other people's LIVEs, across many channels at once, bought as media: in-stream advertising.

This article covers the first. The second is covered in TikTok LIVE advertising: what brands can buy and how.

Promote on TikTok: the Boost LIVE goal

Promote is, per the TikTok Business Help Center (updated July 2026), an in-app advertising tool to amplify your TikTok videos and LIVEs. It has four goals: Boost account, Get leads, Get sales and Boost LIVE. The last one is to “get more LIVE views and LIVE followers.”

There are two requirements:

  • you must be at least 18 to use Promote;
  • the account needs at least 1,000 followers to promote a LIVE.

Where to find it, per How to find Promote in-app and on web (July 2026): before a LIVE, the Promote icon sits above the Go LIVE button; during a LIVE, it's in the Share menu. There's also a web version of Promote.

Because the button lives on the LIVE screen itself, a creator's LIVE is promoted by the creator from their own account: agree on it in the deal. And one simple tactic from TikTok's own business blog (February 2025): share a video before the LIVE to attract viewers. While you're live, a badge on the For You Page lets people join the stream instantly.

TikTok LIVE Shopping Ads in Ads Manager

If you sell on TikTok Shop, the Ads Manager product for LIVE is LIVE Shopping Ads. Per TikTok's help page (updated March 2026), they help people discover and watch your LIVE and buy during it, and they appear in the feed, the Shopping Center and search. You need:

  1. A TikTok Shop connected to your ad account.
  2. An Identity: the TikTok account you go live with.
  3. Age targeting set to 18+.
  4. Punctuality: the LIVE must start within 48 hours of the planned start time.

TikTok's step-by-step guide (March 2026) still walks through the older setup: the Sales objective with TikTok Shop as the product source, Real-time LIVE or Single video as the creative, then an optimization goal and target ROAS. A note at the top of that page points to the July 2025 switch to GMV Max, described below.

Watch for the 2025 change. Per the migration page (March 2026), since July 2025 GMV Max has been the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads: under the sales objective with TikTok Shop as the destination, you can no longer create LIVE Shopping Ads, Product Shopping Ads or Video Shopping Ads, though LIVE Shopping Ads remain available when you select a TikTok identity (official and marketing accounts can no longer be selected as that identity). LIVE GMV Max is an automated campaign that aims for the highest gross revenue for your LIVE, using both videos that lead to the LIVE and the LIVE itself (help page, September 2026). Yet the setup guide (March 2026) says it's available in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore only. The pages don't fully agree, so check what your own Ads Manager offers in your market before you plan.

TikTok Shop has been live in Spain since December 2024, with shopping from videos and LIVEs (TechCrunch, 10 December 2024), and in Germany since 31 March 2025 (TikTok Newsroom, in German). TikTok's May 2026 European announcement lists the UK among existing markets; Turkey isn't mentioned.

TikTok LIVE for brands: creators and TikTok One

The third route is to have a creator host the LIVE: they present, demo or sell your product on their LIVE, or go live from the brand's account. To find them, TikTok offers TikTok One (June 2026), its creative platform for finding vetted creators and production agencies and running creator-led ads.

What the creator must do, per the help page on the commercial content disclosure setting (January 2026): in the LIVE settings, open Content disclosure, turn on Disclose commercial content and choose Your brand or Branded content; for branded content, tag the brand partner. The post is labeled “Commercial content,” and a third-party promotion shows “Paid partnership.” TikTok One projects turn the setting on automatically. Without proper disclosure, a post may be removed or restricted.

What the creator can't do, per the Branded Content Policy (November 2023): promote, among others, gambling and betting, alcohol, tobacco and vapes, or financial products (with some regional exceptions). The product must be clearly identified and claims can't be misleading. TikTok's market-specific requirements (November 2025) set extra rules by market: in Spain, Germany, Turkey and the UK, branded content with film, TV or game trailers is shown only to users aged 18 and over, whatever the trailer's age rating; in the UK, food and drinks classified as high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) aren't allowed.

The limit of this route is scale: every creator is a separate negotiation, and a sponsorship deal on its own doesn't fix how many people will see the mention.

Promoting a LIVE buys an audience for one broadcast. Being inside many creators' LIVEs is a different purchase.

How to measure a TikTok LIVE

There are two data sources, and they measure different things.

Creator analytics. Per TikTok's Creator Academy, the LIVE tab in analytics shows total views, new followers, total time and Diamonds for the last 7 or 28 days, among other data. That page doesn't mention peak or average concurrent viewers: if you need them, ask for them in writing in the deal, with screenshots of the analytics.

Ad reporting. TikTok's LIVE Shopping Ads metrics (March 2026) include:

  • LIVE views: the number of times your LIVE was viewed from an ad, revisits counted;
  • LIVE unique views and 10-second LIVE views;
  • LIVE product clicks;
  • product page views, adds to cart, checkouts initiated, purchases and ROAS attributed to the ad.

Before you compare offers, agree on the unit: a LIVE entry, a unique viewer and a verified view of your creative are not the same thing. More on comparing metrics in Live stream advertising platforms compared.

Which tool fits your goal

Goal Tool Who runs it What you measure
More viewers and followers for your LIVE Promote, Boost LIVE The account going live (18+, 1,000 followers) LIVE views and followers
Selling during the LIVE LIVE Shopping Ads or GMV Max Ads Manager with a connected TikTok Shop LIVE views, product clicks, purchases, ROAS
A creator presenting your product Sponsorship, TikTok One Creator and brand, with commercial content disclosure What the creator shares from their analytics
Your creative inside many creators' LIVEs In-stream advertising (APIQ) APIQ, on the streamer list you approve Verified views, clicks, a screenshot of every view

Where APIQ fits: ads inside other creators' LIVEs

APIQ doesn't promote your LIVE. It places your creative inside the broadcasts of many streamers on TikTok LIVE, Twitch, Kick and YouTube Live, bought as media. The streamer adds an ad layer to their streaming software (OBS, for example) once, and APIQ shows your banner, video of up to 30 seconds, poll, rich media or Frame-roll in it.

What you pay for:

  • one CPV rate for every streamer in a format;
  • guaranteed views: if a channel underdelivers, streamers from your approved longlist are added;
  • verified views only: the creative was shown correctly, fully visible and met the campaign requirements; each view comes with a screenshot checked by computer vision, the streamer, the time and the audience size at that moment, and the anti-fraud check covers 14 parameters.

One TikTok-specific point: the layer lives in streaming software, and not every account can stream to TikTok from third-party software. Per Streamlabs (July 2026), TikTok doesn't publicly document the requirements, stream key access isn't guaranteed, and creators using third-party software must stream at least 50% gaming content. Ask how each TikTok channel in the media plan goes live; you approve every channel by name. The media plan arrives within 24 hours, and launch follows 1–2 days after the streamer and creative list is approved: see brands.

The routes combine: a promoted LIVE of your own to sell, and presence inside other creators' LIVEs around it. More in In-stream ads vs platform ads.

Frequently asked questions

Can you promote a TikTok LIVE?

Yes. TikTok lets you promote a LIVE with its Promote tool and the Boost LIVE goal, which aims for more LIVE views and LIVE followers. You must be at least 18, and the account needs at least 1,000 followers. If you sell through TikTok Shop, you can also use LIVE Shopping Ads in TikTok Ads Manager. None of these tools places your creative inside other creators' LIVEs.

How many followers do you need to promote a LIVE on TikTok?

To promote a LIVE with TikTok's Promote tool, the account needs at least 1,000 followers and the user must be at least 18, according to the TikTok Business Help Center (July 2026). The Promote icon appears above the Go LIVE button before a LIVE and in the Share menu during it. Promote is also available on the web.

What is TikTok LIVE GMV Max, and where is it available?

LIVE GMV Max is TikTok's automated Shop Ads campaign that aims for the highest gross revenue for a LIVE, using both videos that lead to the LIVE and the LIVE itself. Since July 2025, GMV Max has been the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads. TikTok's setup guide (March 2026), however, lists LIVE GMV Max only in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, so check what your own Ads Manager offers in your market.

Can a brand promote a creator's TikTok LIVE?

Yes, but the creator turns it on. TikTok's Promote icon sits on the LIVE screen of the account going live, so when a creator hosts the LIVE for a brand, the creator promotes it from their own account with the Boost LIVE goal. Agree on this in the sponsorship deal. The account needs at least 1,000 followers, and the user must be at least 18. A sponsored LIVE also needs commercial content disclosure.

How is APIQ different from promoting a TikTok LIVE?

Promoting a TikTok LIVE brings viewers to one specific broadcast. APIQ places a brand's creative inside many streamers' LIVEs as a media buy: one CPV rate, guaranteed views, and payment only for verified views, each with a screenshot, the streamer, the time and the audience size. The media plan arrives within 24 hours, and launch follows 1–2 days after streamers and creatives are approved.
