TikTok LIVE advertising: what brands can buy and how

Most guides to “TikTok LIVE ads” explain how to go live yourself. A brand has three options: pay TikTok to bring viewers to its own LIVE, pay a creator to feature it in theirs, or buy a place inside many creators' broadcasts as media. Here they are side by side, per TikTok's help pages as of October 2026.

How TikTok LIVE works for creators and viewers

Since 23 November 2022, you must be 18 or older to host a LIVE; sending virtual Gifts or using monetization features also requires being 18 or older (TikTok Newsroom, October 2022). LIVE Subscription, a monthly subscription to a creator, requires the creator to be 18 with at least 1,000 followers; subscribers must be over 18 too (June 2023). Where TikTok Shop is available, products can be tagged in videos and LIVEs and bought in the app, and creators can earn commissions promoting sellers' products in livestreams (September 2023). Brand money comes on top, through one of three routes.

TikTok's own LIVE ads: LIVE Shopping Ads and Promote

TikTok Ads Manager has one product built for LIVE: LIVE Shopping Ads. According to the TikTok Business Help Center (updated March 2026), they help people discover and watch your LIVE and buy during it, and appear in the feed, the Shopping Center and search. You need a TikTok Shop connected to your ad account, a TikTok account as the “Identity” you go live with, age targeting set to 18+, and a LIVE that starts within 48 hours of the planned time. Since July 2025, they run as LIVE GMV Max, the only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads.

The second tool is Promote, the in-app ad tool. Its Boost LIVE goal is to “get more LIVE views and LIVE followers”; promoting a LIVE takes an account with at least 1,000 followers, and the user must be 18 or older (TikTok Business Help Center, updated July 2026).

Both bring paid traffic to a LIVE on an account you run or have been given access to; neither puts your creative into the broadcast. In the help pages we reviewed, no TikTok ad product places a brand's ad inside another creator's LIVE the way Twitch runs ad breaks. Getting into other creators' LIVEs goes through the creators themselves: TikTok Shop affiliate commissions or a sponsorship deal. See also In-stream ads vs platform ads.

Sponsoring TikTok creators in their LIVEs

The second route is a direct deal: a creator mentions, demos or sells your product during their LIVE. It feels native, but every creator means a separate negotiation and fee, and nobody guarantees how many people see the mention. Where TikTok Shop is available, the deal can instead be a commission on sales through its affiliate program.

TikTok's help page on the commercial content disclosure setting (updated January 2026) says content promoting a brand, product or service must have the setting on, and it gives steps for LIVE: in the LIVE settings, the creator opens Content disclosure, switches on the toggle and tags the brand partner. A third-party promotion shows a “Paid partnership” label.

TikTok's market-specific branded content requirements (November 2025) add local limits: in Spain, Germany, Turkey and the UK, film, TV and game trailers in branded content are restricted to over-18 audiences, and the UK doesn't allow food and drinks high in fat, salt or sugar.

In-stream ads in TikTok LIVEs, bought as media

The third route places your creative inside the broadcast itself, across many channels, and you pay per verified view rather than per creator. APIQ works this way on TikTok, as on Twitch, Kick and YouTube: the creator connects their TikTok channel and adds the ad layer to their streaming software, OBS for example, once. APIQ shows your creative in that layer: a bottom or side banner, full-screen video of up to 30 seconds, a poll, rich media or Frame-roll, where the stream shrinks and your brand fills the frame.

One question is specific to TikTok: the ad layer lives in streaming software, while a TikTok LIVE can also be started straight from the phone app. And streaming to TikTok from third-party software isn't open to every account: Streamlabs (updated July 2026) says that stream key access isn't guaranteed, the requirements aren't publicly documented, and creators using third-party software must stream at least 50% gaming content. Ask how each TikTok channel in the media plan goes live; you approve every channel by name.

What you pay for:

  • one CPV rate for every streamer in a format, fixed in the media plan;
  • a guaranteed volume of views: if a channel underdelivers, streamers from your approved longlist are added;
  • verified views only: each is checked on a screenshot with computer vision, the audience is scored on 15 anti-fraud parameters, and suspicious traffic never reaches the invoice.

The three routes side by side

Route What you buy What the report shows Main risks
LIVE Shopping Ads, Promote Viewers for your own LIVE LIVE Shopping Ads: LIVE views (revisits counted), unique and 10-second LIVE views, product clicks. Promote: LIVE views and followers You need your own LIVE; Shopping Ads need TikTok Shop
Creator sponsorship A creator's time and voice What the creator shares A fee or commission per creator, no view guarantee
In-stream ads (APIQ) Verified views of your creative in named creators' LIVEs A screenshot of every view, audience size at that moment TikTok: ask how each channel streams (app or software)

TikTok LIVE by market: reach and shopping

Market TikTok ad reach, 18+ (late 2025) Share of adults TikTok Shop
United States 153 million 55.7% Yes, since September 2023
United Kingdom 26.8 million 48.4% Yes
Spain 20.9 million 52.0% Yes
Germany 23.7 million 33.9% Yes, since 31 March 2025
Turkey 44.9 million 68.6% Not among announced markets

Reach comes from DataReportal's “Digital 2026” reports for the US, UK, Spain, Germany and Turkey: over-18 ad reach from TikTok's ad tools, not LIVE viewers. Shop markets: TikTok's May 2026 announcement of its European markets (in German), which doesn't list Turkey; Germany's launch date is from TikTok, March 2025 (in German); the US launch from September 2023.

On TikTok, the platform sells you viewers for your own LIVE. A place inside other creators' LIVEs is bought from the creators, or as media.

What TikTok counts as a LIVE view, and what it doesn't

TikTok's reporting metrics for LIVE Shopping Ads (updated March 2026) define LIVE views as the “number of times your LIVE was viewed from an ad. Revisits are counted,” alongside LIVE unique views and 10-second LIVE views. That counts entries to your LIVE, which is enough when the whole broadcast is yours.

In someone else's LIVE, the question is whether your brand was on screen, and in front of how many real people. At APIQ, a view counts only if the creative was shown correctly, was fully visible and met the campaign requirements, and each comes with a screenshot, the streamer, the time and the audience size at that moment. How to read such a report: How to check that your ad actually ran.

LIVE views and verified views of a creative are different units: agree on one before you compare offers.

Checklist: what to ask before you buy TikTok LIVE ads

  1. The unit. A LIVE entry, a unique viewer, a 10-second view or a verified view of the creative? Is that what you're invoiced for?
  2. Fake viewers. How is the audience checked? The warning signs in Twitch viewbots and fake viewers are worth checking on any platform.
  3. How the creator streams. Phone app or software on a computer? Ask which formats each option supports.
  4. Disclosure. Who turns on TikTok's disclosure setting and tags the brand, and how is the ad labeled for the local regulator?
  5. Category rules. Does your product fall under TikTok's market limits, such as 18+ for game trailers?
  6. Brand safety. Do you approve every channel by name and can you remove one mid-campaign? See Brand safety in live streams.
  7. Your own tracking and rights. A promo code or tracking link per creator, UTM tags, AppsFlyer or Adjust: ask which of them work in a TikTok LIVE. And get in writing whether you may reuse clips.

Labeling TikTok LIVE ads in the UK and US

In the US, the FTC's guide for influencers (November 2019) asks for the disclosure within the video, repeated periodically in live streams. In the UK, the ASA's guidance (March 2023) asks for a prominent label up front, such as “Ad.” The simplest fix is an “Ad” label in the creative.

TikTok LIVE advertising FAQ

Can you run ads inside other creators' TikTok LIVEs? Not through the TikTok ad tools we reviewed, which bring viewers to your own LIVE. Inside other creators' LIVEs, you sponsor them or buy in-stream ads.

Can the campaign run only with creators we choose? Yes, in closed-circle mode. The volume guarantee doesn't apply then, and delivery rests with the advertiser.

How fast can an in-stream campaign start? The media plan arrives within 24 hours of the brief, and launch follows 1–2 days after the streamer and creative list is approved. One campaign can cover TikTok, Twitch, Kick and YouTube in Spain, Turkey, Germany, the UK and the US; see the brands page.
